Critical Care Transport Team
The University Hospital CCTT consists of specially trained EMS staff members that comprise the Critical Care Transport Team. CCTT is a NJDHSS licensed Specialty Care Transport Unit (SCTU) that provides ALS transportation of critically ill or injured patients from local hospitals to specialty centers. A majority of these transfers are from regional hospital Emergency Departments and Intensive Care Units for admission to University Hospital and other leading specialty hospitals.
In service since 2004, CCTT is staffed by a Mobile Intensive Care Registered Nurse (MICN), and a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP). CCTT performs critical care transportation throughout the New Jersey and Northeast region. CCTT operates several custom ambulances and carry specialized equipment and medications for patient care. CCTT also assumed the responsibilities of the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Transport service operated by University Hospital.
Additionally, CCTT is a licensed Mobile Intensive Care Unit that may be utilized occasionally in emergency situations for on-scene Advanced Life Support assignments within the UH-EMS coverage area. University Hospital EMS CCTT is also responsible for all requests for service (ALS and BLS) on the grounds of the UHNJ Newark Campus.
